VYVA Voice Companion
MCP tools for a voice agent
Tool endpoints behind a senior-care ElevenLabs voice companion, covering medication management, reminder calls and brain-coach sessions.
Overview
VYVA is a voice companion for senior care. Its FastAPI backend covers health and care, medication, symptom checking, social and brain-coach features, and exposes them to an ElevenLabs voice agent as MCP tools so the agent can act during a live conversation.
01 The problem
A voice agent is only useful if it can do things mid-call: look up a user's medications, change a dose, confirm a reminder went out, or run a cognitive exercise, all without the user touching a screen.
02 The approach
Each capability is a typed MCP tool with a clear description the agent can follow, backed by FastAPI services and a PostgreSQL database. I built and maintained a set of these tools, mainly around medications, reminder calls and the brain coach.
Highlights
- 01MCP tools the voice agent calls during live conversations
- 02Medication records the agent can read and change by voice
- 03Reminder calls with status checks
- 04Brain-coach sessions with cognitive exercises, trivia and memory games
- 05PostgreSQL schema managed with Alembic migrations
My part
This was a team project. These are the pieces I built, taken from my commits in the repository.
- Built MCP tools to add, update and end a user's medications, used by the agent during calls
- Added a call-status check and fixed the medication reminder call flow
- Worked on the brain-coach question-retrieval tools, including a v2 flow for follow-up activities in the same call
- Added timezone support to user records and updated the call-logging MCP tool
- Replaced raw SQL scripts with Alembic migrations for the brain-coach tables
